Hey Folks, long time no hear/see/text/chat hope you are all well. I haven't been gaming in a few months but am maybe starting to get into some practice bore Medal of Honour and COD BO comes out. The thing is i aint been keeping in touch with all things tech and im about to buy a new headset and for the life of me i have no clue what to get. I have been looking ok but am sterie eyed about a couple of things.

1. USB or 3.5mm Jacks ?

I have Creative's Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium - Fatal1ty Champion Series card and im feeling if i use a USB headset i might as well bin this card as the USB is just bypassing it.

2. Stereo / 5.1 / 7.1 ?

I believe most PC games produce a stereo sound, so is the advertised 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound a gimmick ? is it real or virtual ? i had a set of Speed-link Medusa's and they where 5.1 quite literally had 3 drivers in each ear with 3.5mm jacks so i thought it was working well , sound was good.

3. Price ?

I have to admit i bought the Logitech G35 7.1 headset used them last night and i really don't like the thoughts of plugging the USB connection in and out all the time to use my speakers. the sound card was about €180 the headset was and wait for it.....€130 am i mad paying this for a headset ? i was gonna bring them back to get a refund

4. Conclusion

I would prefer a good headset with 3.5mm jacks so i know the sound-card is actually doing something. but is the technology good enough in the said 5.1 and 7.1 USB headsets to warrant the price and the fact its not using the sound card ?

Please help, love to hear your thoughts guys :-)

Thanks for reading

Marty

I second the ones Spook said, although my pair broke after 3 months of having them....

The pair are 5.1 surround and are pretty damn comfortable. You also get an on-desk remote which allows you to change bass and other volume levels on the fly. All-in-all, a really great headset and worth every penny. They use 3.5mm jacks too.

If you're looking for a 7.1 surround headset, I think Kev has a really decent pair. Just have to wait for him to get in this thread.

yeah i would get the roccat kaves there are quite a few of us have these and i have to say they are the best headset i have ever had cant go wrong with em solid biuld and awsome sound

5.1/7.1 is not a gimick it defo works gives u a big advantage in game as it pinpoints sound so you kno exactly where sounds came from rather than gessing is it behind or in front
